Reclamation (UE5)

Level visibility tracks were used to get an actual reflection of a forest on the laptop screen. An entire chuck of the room was turned "off" when the camera moved behind the chair.

The stream was placed with UE5s water body system. A lot of parameters to fidget with but it was a bit glitchy on uneven ground. Either way I really liked the look of the water and the distortion effect. The stream was lined with a bunch of embankments.

Laptop was modeled in Blender through usual SubD modeling. Final laptop in-engine had Nanite enabled.

All hand placed Twinmotions, Megascans, & Apartment Tech Props assets. Some assets I modeled like the walls and the tunnel version of the wooden tracks.

All Megascans trees and other assets placed in Foilage mode along with hand placing quite a bit. I will follow up with renders of both environments soon.

Reclamation (UE5)

I took part in the ASUS ProArtist Awards 2023 contest and this was my submission in the animation category. I didn't win 1st place but I was in the top 10 finalists. Announcement video--Animation category starts at 5:07: https://youtu.be/1QaVw7MfDf8

This years theme was Seeing an Incredible Future and my take on it was a fully biodegradable laptop made with natural elements which Nature would have no issue reclaiming.
-
This was my first time doing anything meaningful in terms of animation and I learned quite a bit about Unreal Engine 5.
-
The environments were built using all the Twinmotions packs, Megascans, Apartment Tech Props, City Sample Buildings, Ultra Dynamic Sky, Ultra Volumetric and a couple more. The laptop was modeled by me and textured using a mix of Substance Painter and the Substance library. I wish I could have spent more time on design and texturing but animating everything was my biggest headache.

Big thanks to Ronan Mahon (https://www.artstation.com/ronanm) for his advice on how to approach animating something like this. Use master sequences! Thanks to the UE forums for their help in the posts that I made and all the things I found there as well and my colleague Ethan for his advice regarding UE. And finally my biggest thanks to my mother for putting up with my endless request for feedback when I was making all this.
